Sometimes a moment may suddenly come when a previously trouble-free dishwasher for some unknown reason refuses to work. It may not turn on at all. Or it may turn on, but refuses to work - it stands there and blinks the lights. Such a surprise. Has the car finally broken down?
Why buy a new one now? Don't despair and make hasty conclusions. The equipment may be complex, but most often it can be easily repaired. And it is not at all necessary that the repairs will be complicated.
Very often it turns out that the malfunction can easily be fixed on your own, without the involvement of service technicians. Next, let's consider what could happen to the dishwasher if it does not want to turn on and perform its duties. And of course, how to get rid of such an unexpected problem.
The main causes of breakdowns of the Ariston dishwasher
There may be several reasons why the dishwasher is not working. As mentioned above, you need to pay attention to the “symptoms” of a breakdown. Let's take a closer look:
- PMM Ariston does not heat water. The cause may be a broken heating element. You should check the wiring leading to the heating element, the heater itself and the thermostat. The latter helps measure the water temperature, so if it breaks, it needs to be replaced.
- When the machine does not draw water, you need to check the presence of water in the water supply. Sometimes the reason is a clogged inlet hose or mesh filter. Have you noticed that your dishwasher doesn't wash dishes well? Check the nozzles on the sprinkler, they may be clogged.
- Water constantly fills and drains in the dishwasher. This malfunction indicates problems with the fill valve. Its membrane does not close, so water constantly flows, while the indicator flashes, notifying you of a breakdown. The reason may be the level sensor, which is responsible for monitoring the water in the tank.
- The machine makes noise when operating and the water does not drain. The rocker arms could be clogged, or the pump could be broken.
- The cause of the machine leak could be the drain and inlet hose. Depressurization of the housing or door could also cause water leakage. A thorough inspection and replacement of parts is required.
- Your Ariston dishwasher won't start or turn on? Connect another device to its socket. If it doesn't work, then the socket is faulty. Next, check the onboard switch. Ring the contacts of the switch; if faulty, replace it.
If your car is still under warranty, then you should not solve the problems yourself. It is better to contact a service center.
Why does my dishwasher leak?
The dishwasher is leaking
If you see a puddle in front of the dishwasher, before calling a technician and thinking that the door is broken, rule out other reasons:
- The door was opened during drying . When the dishes are on the dryer, steam comes out of the machine, it remains in drops on the edge and flows down the seal to the floor. There is no damage here. Do not open the dishwasher until drying has finished.
- The seal is not level . The chamber is depressurized. You need to level the machine.
- Wrong detergents . If you use bad detergents or add more than necessary, a lot of foam will form. There will be not only water with foam flakes near the machine. Don't use so much detergent and choose good manufacturers.
- Detergents have clogged the seal . When there is a lot of detergent, the residue settles in the seals. And a puddle appears on the floor. To remove excess detergent, you need to run the dishwasher on high temperature without dishes.
- Filters are clogged . The solution is to clean them on time.
What goes wrong most often?
In terms of design and repair features, Ariston dishwashers are similar to dishwashers from the Bosch and Electrolux brands. However, breakdowns that occur with Boschs cannot always happen with Aristons. Of course, like other appliances, dishwasher parts are subject to wear, but still, most often the following malfunctions occur in Hotpoint Ariston dishwashers:
- failure of the heating element, which can lead to poor dishwashing, as well as knocking out plugs in the electrical network;
- the water supply to the machine is very slow or absent, the reason for this is a clogged or broken fill valve;
- draining water when drawing it non-stop, this malfunction is also a consequence of a breakdown of the filling valve or water level sensor;
- the dishwasher makes unusual noises and sounds, this indicates either a clogged rocker arm inside the machine tank or a malfunction of the circulation pump;
- a water leak in the car indicates a broken drain pump, a broken hose or a loose door;
- lack of drainage also indicates a breakdown of the drain pump and clogged filters.
Important! If you independently attempt to solve any problem with a dishwasher that is under warranty, the warranty service will become void.
Where to start the renovation?
If the Bosch dishwasher does not turn on and the display does not provide any information, the specialist acts according to a certain algorithm:
- Disconnects equipment from electrical power.
- Moves away from walls and cabinets, making it easier to access the machine from four sides.
- Performs a visual inspection for cable damage, loss of contact, or any loose connections.
- Checks replacement parts for damage.
- Measures voltage.
- Checks the integrity of the coils and the functionality of the sensors.
- Inspects and rings the engine.
In the same way, having several tools and devices, the head of the family can easily deal with broken equipment. Perhaps his knowledge is not enough to fix a serious breakdown. However, any man who knows how to hold a screwdriver can understand why a Bosch dishwasher won’t turn on and fix a minor problem.
How to repair a dishwasher
In some cases, you can fix the problem yourself. Before starting work, disconnect the Ariston machine from the network and communications. Prepare the necessary tools.
Heater replacement
The heating element often suffers from scale when using hard water. If you hear an unpleasant burning smell, you need to check the wiring of the heating element, which may have burned out. Are you sure that the Hotpoint-Ariston heater is faulty? Then start replacing:
- Open the hatch door where the dishes are loaded.
- Remove all trays and shelves.
- Remove the water spray by pulling it up. It is located at the bottom of the car.
- At the bottom there is a filter that protects the pump from contamination. Unscrew the part and remove the mesh from below.
- Unscrew the bolts that secure the pipe and the heater.
- Place the dishwasher on its side with the bottom exposed.
- If the machine is freestanding, remove the rear panel by unscrewing the mounting bolts. If the device is built-in, remove the bottom.
- A pump is attached to the side of the heating element. You need to unscrew it clockwise. Disconnect the pump wiring and remove it from the housing.
- Disconnect the rubber fastener of the heater and remove the heating element.
Tip: To ensure proper wiring, take a photo of the connectors before removing the item from its socket.
Start the machine after repair to check the operation of the new element.
Checking the water intake valve and level sensor
When water does not flow into the Ariston dishwasher or, on the contrary, it constantly fills, check the intake valve. The part cannot be repaired, so you will need to disassemble the PMM:
- Remove the side or back panel (depending on model) of the dishwasher.
- The valve is located immediately behind the inlet hose.
- Unscrew the valve fasteners and disconnect the wiring.
- For replacement, a part is selected for a specific dishwasher model.
The pressure switch could also be broken. The reasons for its breakdown are natural wear, burnt contacts, and blockages in the pressure tube.
How to disassemble the car and get to the sensor:
- Open the bottom of the dishwasher.
- Find the level sensor. It looks like a box with pipes.
- Unscrew the two mounting bolts.
- Remove the tube from the box using pliers.
- Inspect the tank (box) for pressure.
- Check the electrical part of the pressure switch by measuring the resistance at the contacts.
- If damaged, install the new part in reverse order.
It’s easy to make the replacement yourself. Be careful and follow the recommendations.
Pump replacement
Below are instructions for replacing the dishwasher drain pump. The main thing in this repair is to properly disassemble the dishwasher.
- Open the machine's hopper door.
- Empty the hopper of shelves and baskets.
- Pull out the bottom filter, as well as the metal mesh.
- Unscrew the inlet hose.
- With the machine on its back, remove the bottom cover. To do this, unscrew the screws around the perimeter.
- Disconnect the wiring connectors from the pump.
- Use pliers to loosen the clamp on the drain hose. Disconnect it from the pump.
- Unscrew the fastening screw and remove the pump assembly.
- Reinstall the new pump with the rubber seal. Connect the wiring.
Please note that there is a circulation pump (motor) next to the drain pump. If the pump only drains water, then the pump drives it around the car, delivering it to the sprinklers.
If the Ariston PMM does not wash dishes, the reason may be the washing pump. We described above how to get to the drain pump. Then do this:
- First remove the drain pump.
- Disconnect the pump motor wiring.
- Release the engine mount.
- Unclench the metal hose clamps that are attached to the circulation pump (three hoses in total).
- Having pulled it out of the body, you need to remove the spring at the bottom and move it to a new part.
- Turn the spring clockwise and remove.
- To install a new motor (wash pump), you need to remove the old hose clamps and install new ones.
- Fasten the device in the reverse order.
Prevention
Most dishwasher malfunctions can be fixed on your own, as already described above. But in order for the dishwasher to last a long time, not break down and not require repairs, it is recommended to regularly carry out preventive maintenance:
- Be sure to clean any remaining food from the dishes before loading;
- wash only those dishes that are dishwasher safe;
- The dishes should not come into contact with the sprayer;
- Use only high-quality detergent intended for dishwasher;
- Clean the strainer every week;
- Check to see if the injectors and filters are dirty and clean them regularly.
Electronic prompts about the type of failure
Modern models are equipped with many sensors that control most processes. They are located on the inside of the body, near the valves, behind the walls and are sensitive to water level and temperature changes.
As soon as an emergency situation occurs, the sensors give a signal, the relay is activated and stops the washing process. The dishwasher's error code is displayed on the electronic display, which can be used to determine the reason for its stopping.
You cannot use the codes of one brand to determine breakdowns of another - the symbols differ for different manufacturers. They usually have alphanumeric designations
The list of codes can be found at the end of the instructions, in the repair section. It usually takes the form of a table, which contains the designations themselves, a list of breakdowns and recommendations for eliminating them.
Fragment of a table with Bosch SMV44IX model codes. The explanations from the last column help to cope with the problem without resorting to calling specialists
Sometimes self-diagnosis produces a code indicating several reasons at once - you will have to check the likelihood of all of them one by one. If the breakdown is serious, then in the table you can find the recommendation “contact service.”
In older models, especially those that have undergone more than one repair, the electronics often suffer and malfunctions occur.
If the machine obviously produces an incorrect code, you should have it repaired or think about buying a new one - kitchen appliances, like other appliances, have a limited service life.

How do you know if repairs are needed?
If a Bosch dishwasher is found to be malfunctioning, experienced craftsmen advise the average person to inspect the equipment for damage. First of all, you need to make sure that there is electricity, that is, determine:
- whether the plug is plugged into the socket;
- Is the power cord pinched?
- Are the plug and socket working?
- Is the electrical contact reliable?
When all operating conditions are met, but the Bosch dishwasher does not turn on, we can say that the equipment needs specialized repair.
