Device
Standard table lamps consist of:
- lamps;
- wires;
- switch;
- plugs for plugging into a socket.
Current flows through the wire from the plug through the switch to the lamp. After pressing the button, the switch opens or closes the electrical circuit and supplies (stops supplying) current to the base of the device.
In dimmable lamps, capacitors and resistors are added to the design to regulate the voltage.

Types of table lamps
Office
Simple and convenient lamps. Suitable for workspaces at home and in the office, children's rooms and bedrooms. Office floor lamps are equipped with mechanisms for adjusting the tilt of individual parts and installing the lamp at different angles.
Such lamps are cheaper than decorative floor lamps.
Tiffany
Tiffany floor lamps are lighting fixtures in which the lampshade is made of colored glass. To make the base of such floor lamps, copper, steel, brass, and wood are used.
Original Tiffany lamps are true works of art that are kept in private collections. Copies of such floor lamps are mass-produced and are available to people with average incomes.
With transparent base
Versatile and stylish interior items. They fit into a setting with warm or cold tones, without harming the overall design. All parts of such floor lamps are made of glass. They are fragile and require careful handling.
Eco
Eco-luminaires are made from environmentally friendly materials:
- wood;
- recycled plastic and paper.
They fit into retro and modern interiors.
Decorative
Decorative lamps are used to decorate rooms. The lampshades of such lamps are made in the shape of spheres, cubes, and polyhedrons. Crystal, plastic, steel, and bronze are used to make the legs. The legs are designed in the form of sculptures or trees.
Fastening
Based on the type of fastening, table lights are divided into 3 types:
- on a clothespin;
- on a clamp (clamp);
- with surface installation.
Devices with fastenings on a clothespin or on a clamp are placed only on the edge of the table, and lamps with fastening to the surface are placed both on the edge and in the middle of the surface.
Depending on the type of switch, table lamps are produced with:
- cord switch;
- touch switch;
- dimmer;
- touch dimmer;
- push-button (on a wire) switch;
- push-button (on the body) switch.
Devices with a touch switch and dimmer are 10-20% more expensive than others, but are not convenient for all users.
What types of table lamps are there: types and sizes
According to external design, they are distinguished:
- office - lamps with directional soft light;
- decorative - used as an element of the interior and a lighting device, for example, design solutions (Tiffany, eco-style lamps);
- children's lamps - made with dim light, as a night light.
By type of fastening:
- with installation on a desktop surface;
- on a clothespin;
- on a clamp.
By type of switch:
- with a switch on the cord;
- sensory;
- with light flux regulator;
- with a button on the body.
The range of devices is extensive, you can find something for every taste.
Characteristics of table lamps
Luminous flux strength
The main characteristic of a lamp is the luminous flux. It is measured in Lumens and shows the amount of light that is transferred by the device per unit time per unit area.
It is indicated on the packaging of each lamp. On devices made in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, it is not the lamp power that is indicated, but the amount of energy it consumes.
Security
The security abbreviation consists of the letters IP and a two-digit number. The first number indicates the degree of protection against dust (0-6), the second - the degree of protection against moisture (0-8).
The higher the number, the better the device is protected. 0 – no protection, 6 – complete sealing of the device from dust, 8 – covering the device from flooding (the depth is indicated separately in the instruction manual).
Floor lamps with a high degree of dust and moisture protection are suitable for installation in the bathroom and places with high humidity.
Functions
Table lamps perform 2 functions:
- Lighting. They provide the light that is necessary for performing various operations: reading, writing, working at the computer, handicrafts.
- Decorative. Table lamps are interior elements. They decorate the room, create coziness, and express the tastes and preferences of the home owners.
Equipment
Some series lamps come with replaceable lampshades that can be easily removed and installed. 30% of luminaires with LED lamps are equipped with USB cords for operation from the power supply of a computer or laptop.
Devices covered by a manufacturer's warranty are accompanied by a warranty card and operating instructions.
Accessories
- Lamps. An eye-pleasing yellow color comes from incandescent lamps, bright white from halogen lamps, and unidirectional white from LED lamps. Lamps in floor lamps are changed to increase or decrease the amount of light they emit.
- Cleaning tools and products . Stores sell individual rags, brushes, detergents and sets.
The packaging of each tool or kit describes in detail what types of lamps, lampshades, and shades it is intended for and how it should be used.
- Switches and dimmers . Items that improve the ergonomics of devices. They make it possible to adjust the lighting level. Remote controllers allow you to control the lamp at a distance of up to 5 meters.
- Plafonds and lampshades. Protects eyes from glare from lighting devices. They are produced with a cartridge diameter of 10-50 mm. Around the world, alphanumeric markings are used to indicate diameter.
In Russia, lampshades with the following markings are common: E-14, G-4, E-27. The marking code is written on the packaging of the item.
- Grounds. Details change the technical parameters and exterior of the night light. Using the base, the height and angle of inclination of the device can be adjusted
- Decorative wire. The cable makes it possible to use the lamp at a distance of 2-6 m from the outlet. To increase the ease of use of the floor lamp, lamp switches are attached to some of the cable models.
Desk lamp
For a business person, having a desk lamp is a must, since daily review of documents and analysis of important information require high concentration. A bright light source contributes to this, and even doctors recommend table lamps for mandatory use. However, the most popular models are desk lamps, which are so often used by schoolchildren. If you have children, you yourself know that you need to buy a lamp for school, because the absence of this accessory leads to increased eye strain.
How to choose a device: mounting features
If we consider the range of table lamps by type of mounting, we can distinguish only two main options – fixed and mounted directly on the table surface.
The first option is models on a clothespin or clamp (clamp). The main difference is in the principle of fastening. The clamp allows you to more firmly fix the device to the edge of the table without causing damage. However, if you need to move the device to another location, you will have to specifically approach the lamp and spend a little time removing it and reinstalling it. In lamps with a clothespin, this procedure is much simpler - you just need to reach it and perform the necessary manipulation. The main advantage of both options is that they do not take up useful space.
A surface-mounted table lamp is a mobile option that does not require any special preparation. You place the device wherever you want. Although, the disadvantage of this lamp is the creation of interference: it occupies a small but very valuable usable area.
Design Features
Although it is a simple-looking device, a table lamp has its own design features. If you do not take into account the design and materials of manufacture, lamps can vary in:
• Option for using the light element (table lamps can use classic elements (halogen lamps), fluorescent or LED);
• The type of switch or the principle of luminous flux regulation (the classic, inexpensive option is a lamp with a cord and a standard switch).
It is very important for schoolchildren to create the right conditions that allow a more rational distribution of the light flux, since the comfort and health of the child depends on this. To solve this problem, there are several models of table lamps that have an easily changeable design. The classic version is an inexpensive device with a round platform-base and an easily changeable, bendable lampshade guide. If you need to redirect the lighting, simply turn the lamp and it will remain in that position.
For greater “maneuverability”, you can choose a model with a special, adaptive design on hinges: these are flexible, movable rods that perform the function of a fixed redirection. “Related” models of these lamps are sophisticated lamps with a fixed position.
Luminaires with a regular lamp
Although we live in an age of innovative possibilities, this type of table lamp has not lost its relevance. Minimum cost and ease of maintenance make these devices leaders among the most affordable models. If you need to periodically change this device (relevant for parents with school-age children), you should not shell out a substantial amount - a lamp with a regular lamp is the best option in all aspects.
LED lamps
Recently, LED lamps have become widespread. These are not only the most economical devices, but also quite multifunctional models. You can choose an LED lamp with the function of changing the brightness, temperature and even the color of the light output. These are devices with very high efficiency and a long service life. The disadvantage may be the high cost, however, as a rule, it is always justified.
Rechargeable lamps
These are quite popular models, the indisputable advantage of which is energy independence. For business people and school kids alike, it's important to prepare for the next day, so in areas where power goes out frequently, this is the only desk lamp option to get those urgent tasks done.
Lamps with an unusual design
If you are buying a lamp for school, you are probably familiar with the problem of choosing the design of a table lamp. Children grow up, tastes and life priorities change, and as a result, the child wants to change the environment around him. A variety of shapes, colors, intricacy of design, themed lamps - this is just a small list of the main tools that can quite effectively attract the attention of a child and, accordingly, stimulate his timely preparation for school. This is exactly the problem that table lamps for kids solve, the base of which can be a real toy - a favorite cartoon character, a soccer ball or a legendary car from the cartoon “Cars”. You can also attract the attention of a schoolchild with a lamp with an unusual design, the shape of which has a futuristic image.
Peculiarities
Installation
Minimum dimensions of the table or board to which the table lamp is attached:
- 3 cm by 3 cm for mounting on a clamp;
- 5 cm by 3 cm for attaching to a clothespin;
- 10 cm by 10 cm for surface mounting.
In 80% of lamps with a clothespin mount, a hole with a diameter of 3-10 mm is drilled, which makes it possible to hang the device on a nail or ledge with suitable parameters. This allows you to mount the lamp on the wall.
Cartridge
Floor lamps are equipped with conventional bases with a diameter of 22 mm (marked BC) and 15 mm (marked SBC). For each of these diameters, fluorescent, LED and filament (incandescent) lamps are produced.
Table lamps with transparent base
Table lamps with a transparent base as in the photo are a very stylish and interesting element of the interior.
They can have both smooth curved lines and strict geometric shapes. Due to the transparent base, you can easily fit such a lamp into any interior, since it does not attract much attention and does not damage the overall appearance of the room.
This type of lamp will ideally fit into delicate interiors with a soft palette, for example, a shabby chic living room or a French-style bedroom.
Advantages
- Mobility . Table lamps weigh no more than 5 kg. Models of office lamps with LED lamps weigh 200-300 grams, are powered via a USB cable and can be used in places where there is no fixed power supply (on trains).
- Variety of colors and prices . There are more than 100,000 models of table lamps available in the market. They are produced in the form of ordinary slats, balls, cubes, polyhedrons, and sculptures.
This makes floor lamps an indispensable part of the interior of the room. The cost of floor lamps ranges from 350 to 50,000 rubles.
- Concentration of light. Table lamps direct light where the user needs it. This is convenient for work that involves fine motor skills of the fingers (embroidery, knitting). LED flashlights work best when concentrating light.
- Versatility. Floor lamps with halogen or filament lamps with a power of 1200-2000 lumens replace chandeliers in rooms up to 20 m². They provide a level of illumination that is sufficient for reading or writing.
Office table lamps
Office desk lamps can be called the most functional and convenient. They are great for lighting the workplace, children's room and even bedroom.
They provide the ability to easily change their position and direction of light, as well as its intensity, which is great not only for working with papers or at the computer, but also for needlework and reading.
Designers often decorate bedside tables with such lamps in the bedroom in a modern and minimalist style, as well as in a loft style, where they look very harmonious and appropriate.
Problems
- Fragility . In all types of lanterns, except office ones, lampshades are made of soft or fragile materials (fabric, glass). If dropped, they do not protect the lamps from hitting the floor or hard surfaces.
This leads to failure of the flashlight. Tabletop lighting devices need to be treated with care.
- Disposal. The main problem with night lights is the need for disposal in a designated place. If a regular incandescent lamp is thrown into the trash, then fluorescent and halogen lamps need to be disassembled using special equipment.
- Requires power supply.
Design features of table lamps
The external simplicity of a lamp for working at a desk or office desk often leads to mistakes in choosing. The buyer of a lamp does not always take into account design features and manufacturing defects made in pursuit of the visual appeal of the product. In order for the selected model to be convenient to use, it is necessary to get an idea of the approximate modification and functions.
The trends recommended by fashion designers do not always take into account that a table lamp attached to a table is not so much a decorative item as a functional fixture.
For example, Tiffany lamps look very impressive due to the use of glass and forged elements. The use of environmentally friendly materials is also commendable. However, this model is not suitable for lighting a workplace precisely because of its decorativeness, shine and ability to transmit intense light through the lampshade.
To make your workspace comfortable, you need functional designs, where each component serves a specific purpose. When purchasing, you should definitely take into account the features of the device.
Essential elements
A desk-mounted lamp designed to optimize your workspace and preserve your vision must consist of basic elements designed for specific purposes. Each design performs a specific function, can be a stationary or mobile device, with a changing configuration. It differs from a simple table lamp in the ability to fix and modify the angle of illumination.
How to choose a table lamp
- Before purchasing, you need to determine the place where the lamp will stand and the color scheme it will fit into.
A floor lamp with a round lampshade smooths out the sharp corners of the room, and a lamp with straight shapes emphasizes the business style and strong character of the owner.
Install lighting equipment in front of mirrored surfaces to increase the amount of light and visual sense of space.
- An important factor when choosing a floor lamp is the nature of the light it casts. The incandescent lamp produces a soft yellow light that is not irritating to the eyes.
Luminescent (daylight) – casts cool white. This lamp consumes 5-10 times less electricity, but is not suitable for painstaking paperwork, handicrafts, or reading.
- The reliability of a table lamp depends on the strength of the materials from which it is made. It is best to choose lighting devices with metal bases and shades. They do not require careful maintenance and are cheap.
Positive and negative sides
An interesting fact is that lighting in the bedroom directly affects the mood of the owner. Therefore, it is customary to supplement the central chandelier with other lighting sources in order to increase the level of lighting quality. A special role is given to table lamps - such devices have many advantages.
- Table lamps are convenient - even on a small surface they will not take up much space.
- Suitable for all stylistic interior solutions.
- There are models with different types of light - for the sleeping area they are installed with a diffused glow, for other areas it is possible to use directional lighting.
- Due to the low power of electrical appliances, such lamps consume a minimal amount of electricity.
- Table lamps have a high level of fire safety and practically do not heat up, so they are installed even on furniture made of natural wood.
It is much easier for the human eye to perceive reflected light - this is precisely the property that table lamps have. The most important difference between such lamps is their mobility - if necessary, the lamp can be moved to another location. When choosing a lamp, you should rely on the quality of the electrical equipment - cheap models have a flickering brightness effect, which negatively affects vision.
It is also worth paying attention to the disadvantages of table lamps. They have a high risk of breakage due to human error - if the bedside tables are low or close to the bed, then the chances of the lamp falling off at night are extremely high. Therefore, the location of the night lights must be thought out in advance. Lamps depend on a power source - sockets must be located in close proximity. The fact is that the lamps do not have a long cord, and the use of extension cords in some cases leads to a violation of fire safety standards.
Existing types
In specialized stores you can find thousands of different lamps. All lamps have their own differences and features, which can be endlessly combined to create new, unique table lamps. The basis is taken from the indicators that should be present in each device.
- Case material.
- Lampshade material.
- Decor elements.
- Buttons for regulating the operation of the lamp.
Most lamps cannot change the direction of illumination. To solve this problem, lamps with a flexible tube body were developed. If desired, the tube can be bent in any direction, which allows for an influx of light into hard-to-reach places. Office lamps have similar properties - the movable design of these models has also migrated to table lighting for the bedroom. Most lamps are produced with a stationary body and a removable lampshade, which can be replaced if desired. Table lamps have virtually no additional functionality, as they are designed exclusively to illuminate a small area of the room. Models with a remote control are coming into fashion, allowing you to adjust the brightness and speed of the lamp.
Another significant difference is the type of operation of the lamp. Switches for them are developed in several versions. The button can be located on the body or on the cord of the tabletop light source. Table lamps with a cord type switch do not lose popularity. Technology has also not spared bedroom lighting, so lamps with touch controls are appearing on counters. It is important that each lamp has a separate switch off button and the ability to adjust the light intensity. Such lamps are suitable for various types of activities - the light will not hit the eyes and interfere with the rest of your spouse.
Which is better
lamp with:
- 360 degree rotation and tilt devices;
- a mechanism that adjusts the height of the device;
- iron lampshade;
- a push-button or touch switch located on the wire;
- incandescent or LED lamp;
- fastened with a clothespin or clamp.
For the living room you need a floor lamp that:
- highlights the design solutions used in the room;
- equipped with a thin and high leg;
- equipped with a halogen or conventional (incandescent) lamp.
For a room in which children under 12 years of age live, it is better to choose a lamp:
- with a lampshade made of plastic or plastic, which is made in the shape of a fairy-tale character;
- which is equipped with a brightness control or a “night light” mode;
- which is equipped with an LED lamp;
- with a push-button switch located on the body of the floor lamp.
For the bedroom the best lamp would be:
- with a lampshade decorated in soft light colors;
- with a push-button switch located on the wire or housing;
- with brightness control or night light mode.
How to choose the right light bulb for a table lamp based on power and type of lighting
When choosing a lamp, technical factors are taken into account - what luminous flux is needed, the degree of protection, equipment and accessories, the power of the device.
For a children's desk
When choosing a lamp for a child's room, pay attention to the support (matte or shiny). From the shiny support, some of the light is reflected and enters the child’s eyes, which damages the retina. For this reason, it is better to choose a matte base.
If a student sits at his desk a lot of time, soft, calm colors are suitable. Since flashy colors distract attention and irritate the eyes and psyche.
The shape of the lampshade should be such that the light bulb does not protrude from behind it. Otherwise, the light will put pressure on the eyes and impair vision. In an ideal lamp, the shade covers the light bulb.
Plastic, thin lampshades can melt when used for a long time. Likewise, metal lampshades that contain a light bulb close to them will become very hot. Experts recommend lampshades made of thick (2-3 mm) plastic or metal, in which the light bulb is installed at a distance of at least 5 cm from the walls.
It is better not to take devices with glass shades for children - they are fragile and can break, injuring the child with fragments.
Doctors advise choosing light bulbs with a yellowish tint for children. This is due to the fact that the human eye is accustomed to the sun, so yellowish ones will not adversely affect vision. The power of a light bulb should be selected only after reading the instructions for the lighting fixture. If you choose a higher power bulb, an explosion may occur in the base. For incandescent lamps, it is recommended to choose a power of 40-60 W, for LED lamps - 7-11 W, the recommended luminous flux is 500-600 Lm.
For the office: which is the best?
Lighting standards for offices are 300-500 lux. Recommendations for office lamps:
- lampshade material - glass or durable plastic;
- colors – pastel, calm. Green, according to ophthalmologists, helps relax muscles;
- light bulbs - matte, warm white or warm yellow;
- lampshade shape - conical or spherical;
- incandescent lamp power – 60 W;
- It is better to choose an LED lamp;
- a device with a flexible leg is more durable than one with hinges.
It is better to choose a lamp with an angle of inclination and rotation of 360 degrees with height adjustment.
For lighting in the bedroom on the chest of drawers: how many watts
For the bedroom, it is better to choose lamps with lampshades made in soft pastel colors. It is better to choose a device with a brightness control or a “night light” mode. With a push-button switch on the wire or body of the device. It is better to buy table bedside lamps in pairs to place on both sides of the bed.
To comply with all requirements and standards, the lamp must be located 60 cm above the bed level. The power of such a lighting device is selected 40-75 W.
Exploitation
- The efficiency of a flashlight in 80% of cases is determined by cleanliness. A layer of dust 0.1 mm thick reduces the lighting intensity by 5-10%.
- Office lamps are easy to use; they need to be wiped with a damp cloth once a week. Lamps with lampshades made of textiles, crystal or glass require special care using special products.
Wood or recycled plastic bases need to be wiped down with a microfiber cloth.
- Before cleaning, the floor lamp must be unplugged from the power supply and wait until it cools down.
- Once a year, it is necessary to take the night light for diagnostics of the electrical part (clamps, plugs, screws) to the manufacturer’s service center or electrical appliance workshop. This reduces the likelihood of lamp failure and increases its efficiency.
All operating rules are described in detail in the instructions that come with the device. Such a book is not included in the package of lamps for which the manufacturer does not extend warranty obligations.
Appearance of a table lamp
Floor-table.
There is a category of decorative lamps, which the manufacturers themselves label as floor / table. This means that the device is equally appropriate on the floor as a decorative floor lamp. And also can be used on the table, as a desk lamp.
In the photo: Gregg lamp from Foscarini.
It is largely determined by the style of the model and its country of origin, as well as the purpose of the lamp (working or decorative). It is wrong to think that table lamps with plastic and Corian® shades are produced only for techno-offices, and decorative table lamps can only be classic. Wood, textiles and even ceramics are used in the production of country style models; Eco-friendly products in ethnic style with paper diffusers are not uncommon. Luxurious classic lamps are usually made using rare woods, crystal and Murano glass. High-tech table lamps are increasingly equipped with LEDs.

On the picture:
A decorative table lamp is the same interior decoration as a good sofa. It doesn’t matter whether you are sitting on it now or not, the object should be beautiful. It’s the same with a table lamp: it must please the eye not only when lit.

The design of the lamp largely depends on the country where it was created. For example, Italian and Dutch manufacturers are famous for their modern designs and new, ingenious ideas. If you're looking for real Murano glass or an unexpected use of Swarovski crystal, take a look at table lamps from these countries. The Spaniards are known for their “fireplace” models (ceremonial lamps that are installed on the fireplace portal); they are distinguished by massiveness and solidity. But the Germans, Austrians and Belgians are more focused on the manufacturability of the product; you will find all the latest developments with them.

Guarantee
Manufacturers of table lamps set the warranty period at their discretion. During this period, they undertake, at their own expense, to repair damage to the devices and replace damaged parts or components.
In devices costing less than 1800 rubles, as a rule, the warranty is given only for the lamp or not at all. There are 2 types of warranty for lamps:
- for a certain period of work (from 1 to 10 years);
- for operating time (from 1,000 to 20,000 hours).
All obligations assumed by the manufacturer or seller of lighting equipment are described in detail in the warranty card that comes with the lamp.
The coupon also describes which components of the floor lamp are covered by the manufacturer’s obligations.
The warranty for table lamps does not apply in the following cases:
- mechanical damage or deformation of any component of the device;
- if the device was not used for its intended purpose or in accordance with the operating rules;
- if the electrical circuit of the lamp has been changed or individual components have been replaced;
- if the floor lamp fails as a result of an emergency increase or decrease in voltage in the electrical network;
- if the device was damaged as a result of a natural disaster (earthquake, flood, fire).
Returning a lamp
Return of lighting equipment is possible if:
- no more than 14 days have passed since the purchase of the device;
- the product has not been used;
- the product packaging has been preserved;
- evidence of the purchase of an item from a specific seller (receipt) is saved.
To exchange the device, you must have your passport with you. If the seller refuses to return the money for the night light, the buyer has the right to demand a refund through the court.
All expenses associated with the return of money (payment for shipping goods, transferring money by mail) are paid by the seller.
Electrical circuits of table lamps
The simplest electrical circuit \Fig. 1\, both for table lamps and for various models of sconce lamps, has a comparison with this electrical circuit:
Fig.1
This electrical circuit is more suitable for the electrical circuit of sconce lamps, but it also applies to the electrical circuit of table lamps.
Let's take for example the electrical circuit on the right - such a circuit is quite suitable for both a table lamp and a sconce lamp, consisting of:
- two lamps;
- key\switch\.
Malfunctions
Main malfunctions of night lights:
- Unstable operation of the lamp. It indicates a lack of voltage in the electrical network or a breakdown of transistors and other electrical parts.
- When you move (touch) the cable, the light turns off. In this case, the cause is a damaged wire or a faulty switch. Both parts need to be replaced.
- The light bulb does not work when plugged in. There may be several reasons for this: from a lamp burnout to failure of individual components of the device.
In the first case, the lamp needs to be replaced; in the remaining cases, the lamp must be taken to a service center or workshop.
Repairing a floor lamp yourself is not advisable (unless you are an electrician by profession). In this case, the manufacturer automatically disclaims all warranty obligations.
Further repairs of the lamp are carried out by representatives of the manufacturer only for a fee.
Tiffany table lamps
Tiffany table lamps should be placed in a separate group. They represent the Art Nouveau style and have a spectacular appearance. Tiffany lamps can rightfully be called a real work of art.
The lampshades of such table lamps are made of colored glass, and the base is made of metal or wood.
The only drawback of Tiffany lamps is their high cost. Unfortunately, only wealthy people can afford such interior decoration.

Types of table lamps
Let's study some types of table lamps and their purpose:
Office lamps are used for auxiliary lighting of the table surface. The lamps are equipped with a mechanism that allows you to rotate the lampshade from different angles. Such light sources have a tuned soft glow. And they are inexpensive.
Decorated table lamps are most often placed near the bed.
From a large assortment, you can always find a lampshade with a design to suit your interior style. For example, a lighting fixture with a shade made from colored glass mosaic. And the base of the lamp is made of wooden materials, brass, copper or other fittings.
Lampshades designed like three-dimensional geometric shapes are suitable for decorating a room. For such lighting fixtures, the legs are made of bronze, high quality glass and plastic in the form of a sculpture or other original image. The lamps shown in the photo are made from environmentally friendly materials. They will look both in a room decorated in a classic style and in a room with a retro design.
In children's rooms, artificial light in most cases plays the role of a night light. Its muted glow creates the impression of twilight.
When purchasing an LED light, you should consider its functions. Such lamps are multifunctional. They can be used as a floor lamp on a bedside table, as the predominant light flux on a child’s study desk, and as additional lighting for a computer desk.
Decorative table lamps
Decorative table lamps are designed to decorate the interior, so their original function of lighting a room is often relegated to the background.
Such table lamps, as a rule, have unusual shapes: the lampshades are made in the form of flowers, balls, complex geometric shapes, and the leg can be made of crystal, metal, wood, bronze, and glass. It is not uncommon to see legs in the form of sculptures, which looks very interesting.
Lamps of original shapes will certainly become the main highlight and art object of your home and will attract the admiring glance of guests.
Types of table lamps by type of switch
According to this criterion, electrical appliances are divided into the following options:
- With a switch on the body . This is the simplest and most reliable option, which is widely used in many models. It is optimal if the lighting device is located directly near the workplace and can be turned off/on without unnecessary movements.
- With a switch on the cord . This solution is appropriate if the lamp is located at some distance from the user - it can be turned on or off without getting up. The manufacturer can also choose a switch on the cord if the body of the electrical appliance is very compact.
- With touch control . Such lighting fixtures usually look more elegant than classic push-button ones. The touch keys at least allow you to turn the lamp on or off and adjust its brightness. More advanced models have additional features, such as night mode.
- With dimmer (light controller) . A device for smoothly adjusting brightness makes it possible to create the desired lighting - soft, spot, intense, etc. Depending on the model, the dimmer of the lighting device can be rotary, push-button or touch. There are also options with a remote control.
It’s hard to imagine a living room or office without a table lamp - this is the No. 1 lighting device for arranging the place where you work, study, read or do handicrafts. However, modern table lamps perform not only a practical, but also an aesthetic function - with their help you can significantly refresh and ennoble almost any interior.
From the point of view of ease of use and practical value, it makes sense to divide these lighting devices into 2 groups: work (office and school) and decorative.
