ШБ 5 – fireclay refractory brick: technical characteristics, dimensions and differences

Ordinary red brick, which we are used to using in construction on our summer cottages, is absolutely not intended for use in the manufacture of stoves and fireboxes. The baked clay that is part of the brick begins to melt at a temperature of 1200 degrees Celsius, and after cooling it simply crumbles. Of course, a household oven rarely heats up to such a temperature, but iron doors and stoves can easily reach such heat, so at least in the places where they connect with these elements it is necessary to lay fireclay, i.e. fire brick. But what are its dimensions?

Price

The price of fireclay bricks depends on many factors.

In addition to the characteristics that each specific refractory product has, the manufacturer plays an important role, which can set its own price.

For example, the Borovichi plant is engaged in the production and subsequent sale of refractory bricks of grades ША-5,6 and 8. Their cost is as follows:

  • ША-5 – the price is approximately 51 rubles per piece;
  • ША-6 – the cost of a brick is 40 rubles;
  • SHA-8 - such a brick costs almost the same as SHA-5 - about 50 rubles apiece.

Brands ШБ-5 and ШБ-8 are produced, in particular, by. The cost of ShB-5 bricks is about 36 rubles per piece. ShB-8 is a little more expensive - 24 rubles per brick.

Fireclay fire bricks ША-5, ШБ-8

Fireproof brick is the most popular material for laying fireplaces and stoves.
The main use of refractory bricks is the lining of steam boilers and boiler boilers.

Our company specializes in the sale of refractory building materials and offers the widest range of them on the market, refractory bricks, fireclay bricks.

The main binder of fireclay bricks is refractory clay, and then the fireclay refractory mass. Thus, refractory brick has much better resistance to alkalis, in contrast to quartz. It behaves very well under sudden temperature changes.

Refractory bricks of this particular type are very popular due to their quality characteristics, which means they are much easier to produce. More and more bricks of this quality are being used in those types of activities.

When laying refractory bricks, try to make the seams as thin as possible in order to reduce heat losses from the stove or fireplace. The bonding of refractory bricks occurs with a solution of refractory clay, to which the crushed refractory brick itself is certainly added.

Fireclay refractory bricks in Irkutsk

With the help of fireclay powder and fireclay, with subsequent mixing and firing, fireclay bricks of various grades and shapes are formed, thanks to a fairly simple production process.

The use of refractory bricks is necessary in cases where there is direct exposure to acids, alkalis and high temperatures. Until now, no one has yet come up with such a material capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1600 degrees Celsius, being neutral to acids and alkalis and at the same time heating fairly large rooms.

Depending on the temperature of use, fireclay refractory bricks are divided into brands ShAK, ShB, ShUS, PB, ShV, PV, ShA. In most cases, bricks ША-8, ШБ-5 and ШБ-8 are used for industrial construction.

Peculiarities

There are several types of refractory bricks, but fireclay bricks are the most durable among all. That is why many experts are inclined to use this type of bricks in the construction of fireplaces and stoves, i.e. buildings that have direct contact with flames.

Construction of the furnace

As for its manufacture, fireclay brick includes two main elements - clay with high fire resistance characteristics, as well as fireclay powder . The proportion of this powder can vary from 60 to 80 percent, which is explained by different markings and types of bricks.

Graphite components are used as additional elements, which help to increase strength characteristics.

For an aesthetic appearance, which is very important in the production of household fireplaces, large quartz grains are added to the composition.

Quartz

The mixture is fired using a special technique, which must be followed strictly. Otherwise, if you leave the mixture longer than expected, it will appear on the surface of the brick.

No, it will not affect the strength characteristics, but it will significantly deteriorate the ability to adhere to the surface and the solution itself. In other words, it is unlikely that it will be possible to build anything from such bricks; they are not used to cover facades or foundations of buildings.

If the brick is kept for less than the required time, then such a product will absorb liquid, which will significantly reduce the strength of the brick. The brick will adhere to the mortar, but under the influence of the mass of the building, it will crumble in the future.

Fireclay brick has a characteristic yellow color with small splashes of red.

You can also determine whether a brick belongs to this type if you lightly hit it. If you have a high-quality fireclay brick in front of you, you will hear the characteristic sound of metal.

Refractory brick grade ША 5

Currently, fireclay bricks of the ShA 5 brand are produced in various shapes and sizes (standard 230×114×65). For the construction of fireplaces and stoves of complex design, different product shapes are required: it can be a wedge, trapezoid or arch. The brick has a rough surface and sand color. A fireplace built from SHA 5 refractory brick is able to withstand high and low temperatures. This brick has a high heat capacity and retains heat longer. The cost of fireclay bricks is relatively low. Main application: for the construction of fireboxes, stoves, fireplaces, pyrolysis chambers, chimneys. Inert to alkaline and acidic compounds. It is worth noting that the size of the ShA 5 brick in one batch may vary by up to 1 cm.

Dimensions and weight: ShB-5, ShA-8, ShA-6, ShA-5

Fireclay or alumina is the most common type of building material. It consists of refractory clay and fireclay. Proper firing is very important for this species. For furnaces, only first-class products are used. They crack when heated and hold heat well.

Size is an important criterion for choosing a building material. The quality of the masonry, durability, practicality and safety of the finished structure depend on the accuracy of the fit. The bricks should not be allowed to fit loosely, and areas with too thin a layer of mortar should also be avoided. Calculation of refractory brick consumption is carried out according to the masonry diagram using design drawings. It is also useful to read about what other fireproof materials are available.

Fireclay brick SB 5 characteristics

Based on the nature of heat treatment, the following fireclay bricks are distinguished:

  • ·non-firing;
  • · fired (sintered in ovens);
  • · fused cast.

Depending on the physical and chemical composition and temperature of use, refractory bricks are divided into grades ША, ШБ. Depending on the shape and size, brands are assigned corresponding numbers from 1 to 109.

Depending on the use, fireclay refractory bricks are produced in different brands: refractory bricks ША and refractory bricks ШБ for general purpose, fireclay ladle bricks ШКУ, fireclay blast furnace bricks for ShPD furnaces, fireclay cupola bricks SHAV, double-sided fireclay end bricks for lining rotary kilns ШЦУ, etc. d. The dimensions of all products are regulated by GOST 8691-73. The most commonly used fireclay bricks in private construction are general purpose fireclay bricks. The composition and properties of ShA bricks and ShB bricks are determined by GOST 390-96. In industry, they are used for laying the roofs of furnaces with an oxygen-depleted atmosphere using oil, flammable gases and dusty compounds as fuel. In everyday life, fireplaces and furnaces are made from SHA brick and ShB brick. ShA brick has a higher Al2O3 content (30%) compared to ShB brick (28%). This determines the fire resistance of SHA brick to be no lower than 1,690 °C. While ShB brick has a fire resistance of 1,650 °C with other parameters being equal: porosity, tensile strength and softening temperature of 1,300 °C

Fireclay artificial stone is valued for its high strength and heat resistance. Experienced builders recommend using it for laying stoves, fireplaces and chimneys. The weight of fireclay bricks depends on its type and size; they must be taken into account when drawing up a project for a future building.

Main types

The stone is made from fireclay powder and special refractory clay, which are mixed with each other in equal proportions. The resulting product has a rough, fine-grained structure of a bright yellow color, but the content of small red inclusions is also acceptable. Briquettes have low thermal conductivity, can withstand high temperatures, are not afraid of high humidity, are environmentally friendly, strong and durable.

The weight and dimensions of fireclay bricks depend on its type. There are several product classifications:

  • According to the fire resistance class - it is marked ShA, can be used at temperatures up to 1400°C, and ShB - up to 1350.
  • In shape - rectangular, trapezoidal and wedge-shaped, used for vaults and arches of stoves and fireplaces.
  • In size - single, one and a half and thickened.

Mass of artificial stone

The weight of fireclay refractory bricks varies depending on its dimensions. Most often, products marked ШБ are used for laying stoves and fireplaces. Their mass is taken into account to evenly distribute the load on the foundation and other components of the building. ShB-5 fireclay brick weighs 3.4 kg with dimensions 230x114x65 mm, ShB-6 - 2.7 kg with dimensions 230x114x40 mm. Artificial stone marked ShA also has a digital designation 5, 6 or 8, its external volumes coincide with those indicated for ShB. The weight of fireclay ShB-8 brick is 4 kg, and the dimensions are 250x124x65 mm.

How to make the right choice

1. Check the strength of the briquettes and how well the firing technology was followed. To do this, take one copy and gently hit it with an iron object. If you have a quality product in front of you, you will hear a ringing sound, the instrument will seem to spring from it and vibrate in your hands. In the event of a strong impact, the briquette will not crumble, but will crumble into several large pieces. Incorrectly fired and poorly dried will give a dull sound and crumble into small pieces.

2. Be sure to make sure that the selected product is stored in appropriate conditions. It should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area on wooden pallets. During transportation, the supplier is obliged to pack it in polyethylene.

3. Choose products with an even geometric shape and uniform shade, without chips, cracks or dents.
