, refers to prohibiting. This poster serves to prohibit the supply of voltage to the workplace where people work.

Poster design and dimensions are NOT INCLUDED! PEOPLE WORK

Sign - DO NOT TURN ON! PEOPLE WORK has a standard design and fixed dimensions. The letters “DO NOT TURN ON! PEOPLE WORK" are made in red and are located in the middle of a white background - in the center, which is framed on the sides by a red border 10 and 5 mm wide. The red border is surrounded by a white edging - 1.25 mm wide. The poster can be of the following sizes - 200 x 100 and 100 x 50 mm. Poster NOT INCLUDED! PEOPLE WORK has a portable design.

Scope of the poster is NOT INCLUDED! PEOPLE WORK

Poster “DO NOT TURN ON! PEOPLE WORK” is posted in electrical installations up to and above 1000 V, it is posted on the drives of disconnectors and load switches, on keys and remote control buttons, on switching equipment up to 1000 V (automatic machines, circuit breakers, circuit breakers), if switched on incorrectly, voltage may be supplied to the workplace. For connections up to 1000 V that do not have switching devices in the circuit, the poster is hung near the removed fuses. This prohibitory poster prohibits anyone from supplying voltage to the line or electrical installation where work is being carried out.

Hello, dear guests and readers of the Electrician's Notes website.

In the last article, we introduced you to the requirements for and their classification.

And today we will take a closer look at prohibition posters.

Let me remind you that there are 13 safety posters and signs in total. There are only 4 of them prohibiting posters. These are what we will talk about in this article.

So, let's go.

“DO NOT TURN ON people working”

The first poster we will talk about is the prohibitory poster “DO NOT TURN PEOPLE WORKING ON.” This poster serves to prohibit the supply of voltage to the place where repair work is being carried out and is portable. It looks like this:

I will say right away that this is the most common poster that we use in our work.

This prohibitory poster has certain size and design requirements.

The frame of the prohibiting poster “DO NOT ENABLE PEOPLE WORKING” should be red. The frame width is standardized from 0.5 to 1 (cm). The inscription “DO NOT TURN ON people working” is written in red. The background of the poster must be white.

This poster has 2 sizes: 20x10 (cm) and 10x5 (cm).

The prohibitory poster “DO NOT TURN ON people working” is used in electrical installations up to and above 1 (kV).

Above 1 (kV), a prohibitory poster is hung on control keys, prohibition keys and push-button posts of high-voltage switches, as well as on the handles of disconnectors, separators and load switches.

I will give you an example. The photograph shows that the prohibitory posters “DO NOT TURN ON PEOPLE WORK” are hung on the handle of the bus disconnector, which is in the off state, and also (if you noticed) on the power supply circuit breaker (solenoids) of the oil switch.

Here is another example from my practice. It’s similar here, prohibiting posters “Do not turn on! People are working” are posted on the automatic operating circuits and switching circuits (solenoids), on the handles of the busbar and cable disconnectors, as well as on the oil switch drive control key.

Up to 1 (kV), a prohibitory poster is hung on control keys and push-button posts of automatic switches, contactors, as well as on switch handles.

If there are no switching devices in the circuit, then the poster in this case is hung on the jaws (blocks) of the removed fuses.

“People are working NOT OPEN”

The prohibitory poster “DO NOT OPEN people working” serves to prohibit the supply of compressed air or gas to the workplace where repair work is being carried out. This poster is portable. It looks like this:

This prohibitory poster, like all others, has certain requirements in terms of size and design.

The frame of the prohibiting poster “DO NOT OPEN people working” should be red. Frame width - 1 (cm). The inscription “DO NOT OPEN people working” is written in red. The background of the poster must be white.

This poster has one standard size: 20x10 (cm).

The prohibitory poster “DO NOT OPEN people working” is hung on valves and valves:

  • air ducts
  • pneumatic drives of switches and disconnectors
  • carbon dioxide pipelines
  • hydrogen pipelines

Here I will say that due to the specifics of electrical equipment at our enterprise, we practically do not use this prohibitory poster.

“Operation under voltage, do not restart”

And let’s finish today’s article with the fourth prohibitory poster “Do not turn on WORK under voltage again.”

Dear readers, to be honest, I have never seen or met this poster in person, so I cannot show you photographs of it.

This poster prohibits re-turning on the overhead line (OL) switch after it has automatically turned off. Before turning on the switch, it is necessary to coordinate the actions with the work manufacturer. All this applies to work on overhead lines (OHLs) carried out under voltage.

The poster is hung on the keys and control buttons of the switch that supplies the overhead line (OL) being repaired. This poster is portable. It looks like this:

The prohibiting poster “Do not turn ON OPERATION under voltage”, like all others, is subject to certain requirements in terms of size and design.

The frame of this poster should be red. Frame width - 0.5 (cm). The inscription “Operation under voltage, do not turn on again” is in red. The background of the poster is white.

This prohibition poster has one standard size: 10x5 (cm).

PS This is where we will finish the article on the topic of prohibiting posters on electrical safety. In the following articles we will look at. Follow the updates on the website. Subscribe to new articles from the site.

In an article previously published on our website on electrical protective equipment, it was mentioned that this category also includes signs and posters on electrical safety (hereinafter referred to as ES). Today we will talk about them in more detail. From the materials of the article you will learn about the different types of posters and signs, their purpose, as well as the nature of their application.

Prohibition posters

The “LOGINE OPERATION DO NOT RE-ON” sign is used to prohibit manual re-closure of overhead line switches after they have been automatically switched off. Such actions must be coordinated with the work manager.

These electrical safety posters must be posted on the control keys included in the overhead line switches. They are hung when performing repair work under voltage. The standard size of the poster is 100x500 mm, with a red border 5 mm wide running along the perimeter. The inscription's letters are red and printed on a white background.

Poster “DO NOT TURN ON! People are working” is figurative. It prohibits applying voltage to the line in all cases. It is hung on buttons, keys and switchgear control drives. When you turn it on, the voltage will definitely get to the line, so this should not be done under any circumstances. These posters are used in electrical installations with voltages not only up to 1000 volts, but also above this value.

The poster dimensions are standard – 100x200 mm, with a perimeter border 5 mm wide. The inscription uses red letters on a white background.

Portable poster “DO NOT TURN ON! operation on the line" prohibits the supply of voltage to the line. It is also hung on the control elements of the switching equipment of electrical panels, when turned on, voltage can be supplied to the line. The inscription is written in white letters on a red background without a border. Overall dimensions are standard – 100x200 mm.

Prohibitory signs “DO NOT OPEN by people working” are also portable. They are hung on valves and gate valves that shut off the air supply to pneumatic switching equipment. An error when opening these devices may cause the equipment on which the work is being performed to turn on. This symbol also applies to gas cylinders, as well as hydrogen or oxygen pipelines, which, if opened, could cause injury to workers with serious negative consequences. The dimensions of the sign are standard; there is a red border around the perimeter.

Difference between signs and posters

The main difference between them is their purpose. In short, the function of signs is to inform about permanent factors, for example, to warn maintenance and repair personnel about the possibility of accidental contact with live structural elements. Accordingly, fixed places are provided for the location of these.

ES signs can be made of metal or dielectric materials; it is allowed to paint them or apply a film with a pattern. In the first case, when a metal base is used, the installation is carried out at a safe distance from live elements.

These safety equipment are displayed in accordance with their intended purpose. Unlike signs, they can be permanently located or portable.

Types of posters by purpose

These funds are classified depending on their functional purpose into the following types:

  • Prohibiting action
, this group imposes a ban on the use of switching equipment to prevent its activation during repair and maintenance work in the area of responsibility.
  • Preventive action
is prescribed to be installed in places where there is a danger of accidental contact with live parts of an electrical installation, or a danger of approaching them. In addition, this category includes a means that informs about the prohibition of entering the electric field zone without appropriate protective equipment.
  • Prescriptive in nature
. The purpose of these means is to point maintenance or repair personnel to a specially prepared place that meets safety standards.
  • Indicating destination
. Currently, GOST provides only one means for this group, informing about the imposition of portable grounding.

Let's look at what products are included in this or that group, the conditions for their use, the accepted format, as well as the acceptable colors. The sequence will be the same as adopted in GOST 12.4.026 2015 (Appendix 9).

Prohibiting

  1. Prohibiting the switching on of switching devices that provide power to electrical installations.

The design is made in two formats: 100.0 x 50.0 mm and 200.0 x 100.0 mm. The inscription is made in red letters on a white background. The inscription is framed with a frame of the same color as the letters. The edging has a width of 1.25 mm and is made in white.

Electrical safety rules allow the use of these safety equipment regardless of the voltage class of electrical devices. Installation is prescribed in places where switching devices are controlled, providing power supply shutdown. If the circuit diagram of the electrical device does not imply the presence of such switches, the poster is installed on the removed fuses.

  1. Prohibition on turning on power lines.

The dimensions remain standard (200.0x100.0 and 50.0x100.0). As for the inscription, it is executed inversely to the previous version, that is, in white letters. Accordingly, the colors of the edging and frame change, but their sizes remain the same.

The purpose is the same as the previous poster, adjusted for cable and overhead lines.

  1. Prohibition on supplying working fluid to the pipeline, opening cylinders, etc.

The form factor and color design correspond to the above electrical safety device from paragraph 1. This electrical protective device is installed on shut-off valves in the following cases:

  • When it is necessary to prohibit the use of shut-off valves for pneumatic drives of switching devices. An example of such devices is high-voltage switches.
  • If it is necessary to prevent the supply of working fluid into pipelines in order to prevent an emergency and ensure the safety of the repair team.
  1. Prohibition on reactivating the power line switching mode after it has been turned off. This issue must be previously agreed upon with the person responsible for safety.

The dimensions of this type are 100.0 x 50.0 mm. Red letters are used. Installation is carried out on control keys responsible for supplying power to the power lines being repaired. This does not require de-energizing the latter.

Warning

Let's consider the safety equipment of this category, the numbering continues in accordance with Appendix 9 of the above GOST:

  1. Warning sign indicating possible danger of electric shock.

The sign has the shape of an equilateral triangle with a black border and a yellow background. Inside the triangle is a stylized lightning bolt. Dimensions may vary within the following limits:

For a sign installed on doors, the sides of the triangle have a length of 300.0 mm.

For various electrical installations, the following side lengths are acceptable: 25.0; 40.0; 50.0; 80.0; 100.0; 150.0 mm.

If the installation is carried out on electrical poles of high-voltage power lines, then the distance from the ground to the sign should be about 2.5-3.0 meters. It is allowed to mark supports one at a time if the span does not exceed 100.0 m. Otherwise, installation is carried out on each support.

  1. The sign is similar to the previous one, the main difference is in the method of application. For this purpose, indelible paint (usually black) is used, which is applied to reinforced concrete supports, fences or slabs.

Thus, we get a monochrome pattern, the background of which will be the surface of the concrete coating. Dimensions and scope of application are the same as the sign from point 5.

  1. A warning poster informing about the danger of approaching the area of the electrical installation where this protective equipment is located.

All products in this group, with the exception of the last one, have a standard size of 300x150 mm. The inscription on them is made in black letters. The image of the lightning is in red, as is the border, the width of which is 5.0 mm. As for the edging, it is made in white.

Possible applications:

  • Installation on temporary fences.
  • Blocking passages to which there is no access.
  • Installation on permanent fences, in cases where they are adjacent to a prepared site.
  • In other places where passage is prohibited due to the danger of electric shock.
  1. Warning to ensure safety when testing electrical installations using high voltage.

As mentioned above, the form factor and design of electrical protective equipment of this type are monotonous. Installation is carried out in areas subject to testing.

  1. Warning to personnel about the danger to life when climbing to a high altitude place. For example, the danger comes from a neighboring structure located under.

The design and form factor remain standard, in accordance with GOST requirements. The poster must be hung if, during lifting, there is a threat from neighboring structures, past which electrical personnel move to the specified place.

  1. Posters for fencing areas with increased EMR background, that is, places where high electric field intensity is observed.

Poster “Dangerous electric field”
Execution:

  • The inscription is printed in red letters.
  • Standard red frame – 10.0 mm.
  • The edging is white.
  • Typical dimensions 200.0x100.0 mm.

Safety rules require the installation of these products in places with increased EC. As a rule, these are electrical installations with a voltage class of 330.0 kV.

Prescriptive

Let's continue the description of electrical safety equipment according to the numbering specified in GOST. There are only two posters in this group:

  1. In what place should people work (see a in Fig. 11).
  2. Designation of a safe path to the workplace (b in Fig. 11).

Figure 11. Prescriptive posters
Execution:

  • Both posters are identical in form factor and can be made in sizes 100.0x100.0 or 200.0x200.0 mm.
  • The inscription is typed in black letters.
  • Background – white.
  • The frame is blue.

As for their purpose, their brief descriptions are given above.

Pointing

This group includes only one poster, the purpose of which is to indicate the grounding location, which does not allow power to be supplied randomly.

Execution:

  • Background – blue.
  • The text letters are white.
  • There is no frame.
  • The edging is white (1.25 mm).
  • Typical dimensions: 50.0x100.0 or 100.0x200.0 mm.

Safety measures require the installation of this information poster in control areas of switching systems that provide voltage supply to areas where protective grounding is applied.

Example

What is indicated on the plate

The SES01 plate is marked with the words “DO NOT TURN ON! People are working."

By nature of application

This classification for electrical safety posters and signs allows you to determine whether the device will be installed on a permanent basis or whether it is portable. The first, for the most part, include signs, for example, voltage indicators, which are a triangular information plate with a stylized image of lightning.

Stationary

Of the types listed above, these include the signs given in paragraphs 5 and 6, as well as the warning poster from paragraph 10

Portable

All other posters that were discussed are portable, that is, those that are installed in new places.

It makes sense to create sets of portable posters only when standard maintenance or repair of electrical network components or equipment powered by it is performed. In such cases, you can take a certain number of mandatory, prohibitive or other safety posters and signs, including “danger to life” signs, in advance.
