Acquaintance
MGTF wire is a heat-resistant mounting conductive product. The conductor function is performed by a copper core. Fluorine-containing polymers are used as an insulating coating. In production, such plastic is also called fluoroplastic. Due to its characteristics, MGTF wire is widely used in various areas of the electrical power industry.
Almost all electrical installations designed for voltages up to 250 V are equipped with these conductive systems. The color of fluoroplastic is white-pink. Since no other coating is applied to it, this color has become the defining color for MGTF wires.

MGTF wire is a multi-wire flexible wire with fluoroplastic heat-resistant insulation. It is a stranded copper wire made of twisted copper wires with external fluoroplastic insulation. The copper conductors are divided into several conductors in separate insulation (from 1 to 4 conductors in the cable). The more conductors, the higher the flexibility of the MGTF cable.
PTFE wire insulation is made by winding PTFE film onto the core. Therefore, this wire is not moisture resistant.
Abbreviation
Information about the design and technical characteristics of the MGTF wire can be gleaned from the product labeling.
Since the letter “A” is missing from the abbreviation, it means that the conductor is not made of aluminum.
The letter “M” indicates that this wire is installation. The letter “G” indicates the high level of flexibility of this conductive system. MGTF wire (GOST 22483-2012) is a product of class 5-6 flexibility.
The presence of the “T” symbol in the designation indicates that the product has heat-resistant properties. This wire can be used at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. The letter "F" indicates the material from which the insulating coating is made. In this case it is fluoroplastic.
Additional designations
Depending on the insulating coating, some MGTF wires, in addition to standard symbols, may also contain additional ones. For example, if the abbreviation contains the letter “E”, this means that this wire is equipped with a shielding coating. It is made using tinned copper wire. Such a wire is not subject to electromagnetic radiation. Consequently, this conductive system will cost more.
The presence of the letter combination “EF” indicates that the wire contains a protective screen and a fluoroplastic layer. This product has improved mechanical characteristics.
The letter combination “MS” indicates that the fluoroplastic layer is additionally sintered. Wire made in this way has high moisture-resistant properties.
Product design
The conductor is equipped with several wires of smaller cross-section twisted together. The diameter of the wire depends on which flexibility class the product belongs to. For example, if a class 5 wire has a cross-section of 0.5 mm square, then each individual wire should not exceed 0.33 mm. If this product belongs to class 6, then the diameter can be 0.31 mm.
Depending on the cross-section of the wire, a certain thickness of insulation is provided for it. If the cross-section of the MGTF wire is 0 35 mm square, then the thickness of the insulating coating should be 0.18 mm. With a cross section of 0.05 mm square. the insulation thickness will be 0.12 mm.
With a nominal wire cross-section of MGTF 0 2 mm sq. its outer diameter will be 1.04 mm. This product is equipped with nineteen copper wires with a diameter of 0.12 mm.
There are no clear standards for the screen (copper braid) of the wire. This parameter is defined differently by each manufacturer. Mostly the standard thickness of the shielding coating of the MGTF wire is 0 12 mm.
The last element of the product design is a shell made of fluoroplastic. It has the same thickness as the main insulation.

Mechanical properties
The main parameters of mechanical characteristics include:
- Flexibility. There are two flexibility classes for MGTF: 5 and 6.
- Temperature. This conductive product can be used at temperatures from –60 to +220 degrees. If necessary, this figure can be higher. MGTF can spontaneously ignite at a temperature of 520 degrees. However, the permissible limit for the product is a temperature regime not exceeding 220 degrees. It is not advisable to use this wire at temperatures up to 260 degrees. Otherwise, the product will begin to melt. This process is accompanied by the release of perfluoroisobutylene, tetrafluoroethylene, carbon monoxide and carbon fluoride.
- Immunity to acids, alkalis, fats and solvents. In addition, this wire is frost-resistant. MGTF can be used in aggressive environments.
The service life of the wire is at least twenty years.
Description of characteristics
The technical characteristics of the MGTF wire correspond to the design features. It is designed to be suitable for a wide range of tasks.
- The rated voltage for alternating current is 250 V, at a frequency of up to 5 kHz, and for direct current - 350 V.
- Electrical insulation resistance of at least 5 MOhm, when measured on a 1 m piece of wire.
- Climatic modification – UHL (moderate and cold climate).
- Operating temperature range – from -60 to +220 degrees Celsius.
- Permissible relative air humidity is 98% at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
- The range of permissible atmospheric pressure limits is from 0.67 kPa to 295 kPa.
- Tested at a voltage of 1.5 kV, frequency 50 Hz.
- Resistant to vibrations, shocks, linear loads and acoustic noise.
- The service life, subject to the recommended conditions, is at least 20 years, although some sources indicate 3 years, other external factors may be taken into account.
Important: MGTF wire is manufactured according to TU 16-505.185-71.
Another interesting feature of MGTF is that its range includes small sections: from 0.03 to 2.5 square meters. mm. This allows it to be used for connections inside electronic devices. Below you can see the table of sections.
The weight of the MGTF wire depends on a number of factors: cross-sectional area, number of cores, presence of a screen, etc.
Weak sides
MGTF wires have their disadvantages:
- The product can be used in an environment where the humidity does not exceed 80%. This is due to the high moisture resistance of MGTF.
- The product is not recommended for use in rooms characterized by sudden temperature changes. Otherwise, moisture getting under the protective layer will reduce its insulating properties.
- MGTF insulation has high fluidity: under heavy load it stretches. The thickness of the protective coating decreases. The tinned copper wires themselves, which make up the insulating layer, can become unraveled. This entails damage to the conductive system.
Electrical properties
MGTF wires are designed for operation at a rated AC voltage of 250V and a frequency of 5 kHz. Direct current should be no more than 350V.
The internal resistance indicator depends on what cross-section the product has. For example, if the cross-section of the MGTF wire is 0 07 mm square, then its resistance will be 271 Ohm/km. This product consists of 14 copper wires, each of which has a diameter of 0.08 mm. For MGTF with a cross section of 0.5 mm square. the resistance will be 39 Ohm/km.
Indicator of the resistance of the insulating layer. This parameter is greatly influenced by air humidity. For example, for MGTF under normal conditions the insulation resistance is at least 100 thousand megohms per 1 meter. If the air temperature exceeds 200 degrees, the resistance will drop to 10 thousand megohms. This indicator will decrease even more if in a room in which there is no condensation, the air humidity reaches 98%. In this case, the insulation resistance of the MGTF will not exceed 100 MΩ per 1 meter.
MG wire
Design Features:
To make MG grade wire, MM grade (soft) copper wire is used. The wire is twisted with the correct twist. The twisting of adjacent layers is carried out in diametrically opposite directions. The twists of the upper layers are directed to the left.
If we talk about wires with a cross-section of 1.5-16 mm kV, which are used for antennas, then they are made from MT grade (solid) copper wire. Conditions of use Copper non-insulated flexible wire MG brand
finds its application in various installations and devices of electrical engineering and as antennas.
