Types of refrigerators

Based on the distribution of the freezer chamber and the medium temperature maintenance chamber, they can be divided into single-chamber, two-chamber, three-chamber, etc. There is also a two-level closet and a so-called French door.

Schemes and principles of operation of a single-chamber refrigerator

When choosing equipment, few people are interested in how the device works and why it does so. Most buyers obsess over size and features. But it is what is inside the device that determines how it works. Therefore, let’s look at the structural diagram and operating principle of a single-chamber refrigerator.

In such units, cooling occurs from the main evaporator (it is located at the top of the refrigerator), air flows down, cooling the temperature in the refrigerator compartment. To prevent the temperature from dropping quickly, a tray with small holes is located under the evaporator (by opening/closing the temperature in the chamber is regulated). Scheme of work:

  • the compressor pumps out vapors from the evaporator, pumps them into the condenser, then they are cooled;
  • condense and pass into the liquid phase;
  • the liquid enters the evaporator, picks up thermal energy, thereby cooling the refrigerator.

The scheme is carried out cyclically until the temperature on the evaporator reaches the desired level, then the compressor is turned off. The chamber maintains the set temperature, despite the high external temperature, thanks to the thermostat, which restarts the compressor.

Single-chamber Ardo, Pozis, Upo have such circuits.

Influence of ambient temperature

Knowing how a refrigerator works, it is not difficult to guess that you cannot place it near heating appliances, as the operation of the condenser will be disrupted. The simplest logic dictates that a refrigerator will work better in cold weather. However, this is not true, as you will have to face several problems:

  1. The thermostat will stop working. Under normal conditions, it turns on the compressor when the temperature in the chamber rises. In frosty conditions, the flow of warm air from outside is impossible.
  2. Difficult start of the compressor. The oil in it will become viscous in the cold and complicate the movement of the piston.
  3. Moisture entering the compressor. Due to the lack of warm air flow, the functioning of the evaporator will be disrupted. As a result, the freon vapor entering the compressor will be saturated with droplets. If operated for a long time in this mode, the compressor will last a long time.

Diagram and principle of operation of a two-chamber

The operating schemes for obtaining sub-zero temperatures in a two-chamber refrigeration unit and positive temperatures are different.

In such household appliances, there is a heat-insulating partition between the freezer and refrigerator compartments; each compartment has its own evaporator. The unit operates on the following principle: using a compressor, freon is supplied to the freezer (a group of saturated aliphatic fluorinated hydrocarbons, used in refrigeration units). This gas boils and evaporates, entering the air cooler, and its surface temperature decreases.

This process is repeated until the temperature drops below zero. Gas is not directed to the air cooler of the refrigeration chamber, since no cooling occurs in it. However, after the freezer compartment has completely cooled, the refrigerant enters the refrigeration evaporator.

In refrigeration compartments with a small volume, an air cooler is placed, the dimensions are significantly smaller than the evaporator of the freezer. The temperature in the refrigerator compartment is always above 0, and on average 4-6 degrees Celsius.

Compressor

It is rightly called the heart of the refrigeration unit. Its task is to create a pressure difference between the discharge and receiving pipes to ensure reliable circulation of the refrigerant. Therefore, the functionality of the entire unit depends on how the compressor works. For household refrigerators, hermetically sealed housings are used, in which a compressor and an electric motor are placed. Special oil is used to lubricate moving parts.

The electric motor is protected using a start-up relay, which connects the starting winding during startup and turns off the motor when it overheats. A filter drier is used to protect the compressor from moisture. The inverter compressor in the refrigerator, which is installed on modern models, can significantly extend the service life of the unit.

In addition, the use of an inverter reduces the noise level.

If desired, you can calculate the efficiency of the compressor. To do this, you need to record the work time T1 and the rest time T2. Then T1/(T1 + T2) = efficiency. For values less than 0.2, the set temperature in the chamber must be adjusted downwards. If it is above 0.6, the door seal is faulty or it is skewed.

Atlant, the successor to the Soviet Minsk refrigerator, is also assembled in Minsk. These refrigerators work for a long time, and breakdowns and malfunctions can be repaired independently.

The operating diagrams of household two-chamber refrigerators are typical and the Atlanta electrical circuit is no different from the units of “Stinol”, “Indesit”, “Nord” and other refrigerators without the No Frost system.

“No Frost” is a chamber cooling system that circulates cold air and prevents frost on the walls of the refrigerator.

The layout of these refrigerators is exactly the same as that of a conventional two-chamber refrigerator.

Fault diagnosis

In any household refrigerator, the following structural circuit systems can be distinguished: The refrigeration system itself - you can climb here only in exceptional cases, for example. Double-chamber refrigerators are more susceptible to such breakdowns than simple models with a single chamber. Current breakdown on the body If the body of the refrigerator begins to shock, this is a reason for serious concern and the beginning of immediate repair work.

Self-repair is possible. If it still appears on the walls of the chambers, it means that the device is not working correctly.

Insufficient sealing of the chambers A simple breakdown - wear or damage to the sealing layer on the refrigerator door. In this case, the start relay will have to be completely replaced.

Problems with the backlight in the chamber If the backlight in the refrigerator is broken, most likely the standard 15 W lamp simply burned out. The standard temperature in the freezer of an absorption refrigerator is -6 Celsius, which means the ice cream will melt there.

First of all, the device must be immediately disconnected from the power supply.

However, the principle of operation of the entire system remains the same. The timer cam drum will slowly rotate, but the contacts are still closed.

It can be inverter and linear. To repair, you will need to remove the relay and disassemble its body; if the reason is a jammed rod, you can solve the issue yourself; if the winding is damaged, you will have to change the entire part. Repair of INDESIT No Frost refrigerator defrost thermostat (sensor). Dnieper

Refrigerator Indesit No Frost

The operating principle of Indesit is similar to others. The thermostat contacts are closed when the refrigerator is turned on. Through the thermostat, voltage is supplied to the compressor and the fan to blow the evaporator, which blows while the compressor is running. Temperature -10 degrees C on the thermostat - a signal to turn off the fan and compressor, voltage is applied to the evaporator heating element. Temperature +10 degrees C – a signal to open the contacts, the compressor contacts close, and thus the refrigerator switches to cooling mode.

Fast Freeze Mode

For example, the Atlant refrigerator and many other two-chamber models have this function. To ensure fast freezing of food, in this mode the refrigerator compressor runs continuously until the function off button is pressed. In models with electronic control, shutdown is automatic. It is not recommended to use this mode for more than 3 days.

The article will talk about electrical connection diagrams for refrigerators from different manufacturers, answers to questions that interest you: what the connection diagram looks like, what it is, the principle of operation .

Refrigerator Stinol

Stinol refrigerators combine all the best achievements in the field of refrigeration technology - high reliability, long service life. The difference between the refrigerator models is insignificant: a different connection diagram and different dimensions.

How does improper operation affect performance?

As you know, caring for equipment helps to extend its service life, and vice versa. The most common mistake is cooling hot food using the refrigerator.

The main points why you should not put hot food in the refrigerator:

  1. The glass shelf in the refrigerator is experiencing deformation.
  2. Hot water evaporates.
  3. Operation malfunction.

Glass does not conduct heat well, so it is dangerous to put food from the stove into the refrigerator, since the glass under the dishes heats up and expands, the rest does not. There may be problems with the glass, microcracks, which reduce the strength. Therefore, it is worth placing a board under hot dishes.

Hot water evaporates and settles on the walls in the form of frost. This prevents freon from taking up heat, resulting in a decrease in cooling efficiency and an increase in the load on the compressor. As a result, the service life of the refrigerator is reduced. To avoid this, you should cover your food with a lid or cling film.

The compressor operates cyclically: on, off, on, off. When hot, the compressor continues to work for a long time. Although modern technology has thermal protection for the compressor, it is still worth letting the food cool at room temperature.

Most refrigerators do not differ in connection type. But it’s still worth delving into how the circuit is connected, what it looks like and how it works. Therefore, when choosing, you should pay attention to the subtleties in the form of a connection diagram. If you understand the circuit, you don’t have to contact a service center, but can easily fix everything yourself. Saving money and time is obvious.
